The Aputure STORM Series Is in Our Gear Room
The STORM 1200X
This is the light you pull when the location is fighting you a warehouse with brutal practical ambience, a venue with 40-foot ceilings, an exterior day shoot where the sun has decided to be difficult. It puts out serious output, holds clean color across the full range, and the fan noise stays off the microphone.
We've seen gaffers fall back on bigger, older fixtures out of habit. After running the 1200X a few times, that habit tends to change. It earns its place at the top of the package.
Reach for it when: You need to win the room. Large venues, exterior day setups, any interior where you're fighting a ceiling or a skylight.

The STORM 700X
It's the right fixture for interviews, music video interiors, commercial setups, and branded content shoots where you want a workhorse that doesn't require a babysitter. Use it as a key. Use it as a hair light. Throw it in a softbox. Let it wash a background. It holds up in all of those roles without making you fight for it.
The 700 isn't the most exciting light in the case. That's kind of the point. On a busy set, "it just works" is the review you want.
You can build a complete package around these if you want to keep things clean and consistent.
Reach for it on: Most shoots, honestly. If you're not sure what you need, start here.
The Storm 400X
The 400X is compact. It runs cool, it travels light, and it outputs more than you'd expect from something that fits where it fits. Tight locations where a larger fixture would be a logistics problem, secondary sources on narrative days when the key package is already committed, kicker setups, practical supplementing. The 400 handles all of it without drawing attention to itself.
Talent tends to be fine with it too, which, depending on your shoot, might be the line item that sells you.
Reach for it when: Location shoots with spatial constraints, accent and secondary lighting, travel-friendly kits, anything where you need a capable light in a small footprint.
