Cutthroat Grip & Lighting is Salt Lake City's modern grip, lighting, and photo rental house. We rent gear in packages with the crew already on the truck — one invoice, in town.
We started Cutthroat to make something specific in Salt Lake — a shop where a producer could call once and get the gear, the crew, and the prep on a single quote. The model wasn't experimental for the industry, just rare for this market. So we built it here.
For a while, the company carried "& Stage" — we operated a physical stage and studio alongside the rental side. We don't anymore. The stage is gone; the truck stayed. What we do now is straightforward: a large Aputure lighting house, deep grip inventory, a Profoto-led photo inventory built per shot list, and the relationships to sub in LiteMat, ARRI, Profoto specialties, and anything else your spec calls for. All on the same invoice.
The shop at 1415 S 700 W is a working warehouse. It's not a retail showroom and we don't have walk-in hours. Most of our gear ships directly to set — your truck gets to your location before call, our gaffer or key grip is on it, and the day moves.
We're also the formal community partner of Utah Film Center. We co-host workshops and screenings, share the bench, and build the local film community as part of how we do business. We hire local. We mentor local. We stay local.
That's the short version. The longer answer is in the field notes, the bench page, and the work we've done. If you want the longest version, call the shop.
